3 American soldiers killed and 3 injured in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan

In a bombing near Ghazni City, in the southeastern province of Afghanistan, 3 American soldiers were killed and 4 others wounded including 3 soldiers. A roadside mine was set off by the American convoy while it passed along a highway. Six or seven fighters of the Taliban were reported to be killed too. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
The four Americans who were wounded in the explosion were evacuated for medical treatment. Only three days ago, another American soldier was killed in Nimroz during a fight with Al Qaeda militants.
This attack brings the number of service members who have been killed in 2018 to 13. While American and coalition casualties in Afghanistan have dropped sharply over the past several years, Afghan security force casualties have risen dramatically.
Taliban insurgents have continued to infiltrate the city of Ghazni, even after they were repelled by American troops sent to help the Afghan military there. On Nov. 21, the insurgents reportedly fired a rocket into the city while General Miller was visiting the Ghazni governor’s office, but the attempt was futile.
In October, Gen. Abdul Raziq, the police commander of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan was assassinated by one of his bodyguards in the presence of General Miller, who narrowly escaped this attack
The American troops and the Afghan Security forces face threats from the Taliban and Al-Qaeda on a daily basis. Official figures reveal that about 25 Afghan soldiers or police officers are killed every day.
