The new face of Boko Haram called the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has killed at least 53 soldiers in fresh attacks on three military bases in a span of three days last weekend. On Sunday, 43 of the above were killed in a firefight which lasted 6-7 hours the remote village of Metele, situated near the border between Nigeria and the Niger Republic.
The terrorists were able to capture a military base after intense fighting. Among the soldiers who lost their lives, were the base commander and three other officers A search and rescue operation is underway for survivors or victims in the vicinity. The attackers arrived with 20 trucks and had invaded the base and looted weapons. By the time Army Air Support could arrive. On the same day, another town of Gajiram, near the northeastern border of Nigeria.
In the third attack a soldier on Saturday on a base in Mainok, Nigeria. Mainok also happens to be hotspots of the Boko Haram movement. The number of major terrorist incidents in the area shown a sharp increase in recent months. The President Muhammadu Buhari who is seeking re-election in February next year is feeling the pressure from criticism of his security record. The Presidency instead has highlighted on held the title of multiple successes in the last three and a half years.
ISWAP also stole vehicles, 4 tanks, 7 woman and 100s of herds of cattle.
A surge of attacks on Military indicates that ISWAP has more hard-liners in their top ranks.
Defeating the Boko Haram (now ISWAP) will take a massive effort as it was the deadliest terror group by the Global Terrorism Index in 2015.
Founded in 2002 and actively radical since 2009, pledged allegiance to the ISIS in 2015 is now known as Islamic State of West Africa Province. Headquartered in Borno State, Nigeria. They have control of around 100,000 square kilometres (39,000 square miles) in the northeast parts of Nigeria. There are believed to be about 15000-20000 fighters in this group.
The Boko Haram is responsible for killing around 27,000 people. Another 23 million remain homeless.
A defensive and reactive stance is not enough to defeat the terrorist group.
The counter-terrorism agencies require a way to gather accurate and infallible information. The captured ISWAP insurgents have been through weapons training, brainwashing, and propaganda literature. Conventional interrogation techniques cannot accurately distinguish between an innocent and a terrorist. Humans hide crucial details and lie.
Similarly, Senior terrorists or leaders know much more than the foot soldiers. Such as information about past attacks, current operations and future plans.
Knowing who the gang leader can help investigators understand the structure and the hierarchy of the group.
Now, a Solution exists which can indicate the level of a person’s likely involvement of crimes and terrorism. Moreover, it can also help to determine the level of radicalization. Such a technology indeed exists and is called “iCognative” technology. The Massachusetts based Brainwave Science is the developer and provider of iCognative.
The iCognative technology uses a computer-based tool to indicate if the person being tested has a memory of a particular word, phrase or an image or not. This knowledge can be extremely useful for law enforcement, counter-terrorism, border security. By becoming capable of distinguishing an innocent from a guilty, the agencies can gain the upper hand in the fight against terror groups and other criminals. A simple iCognative test takes around 45-minutes per individual. There is no verbal exchange between the test administrator. No questions are asked. A proprietary wireless headset and a laptop computer are used to flash images, words and phrases to the testee. His brain response is different depending on whether he has prior memory or exposure to the flashed item or not. This response can be recorded and analysed by the revolutionary iCognative system and report it with 99.9% accuracy.
iCognative has no-countermeasures and is reliable. It does not report any false positives or false negatives. This is the revolution in intelligence gathering which the counter-terrorism agencies have been looking for. There is no torture involved and the testee is relaxed. The has vast applications and is applicable in more than 85% of all criminal and civil cases.
False imprisonment, delayed justice and torture can be avoided by the use of iCognative.
