Flight Steward held for smuggling drugs into Australia

The Australian Police have said that they have busted a drug smuggling criminal organization which allegedly made use of a flight steward to smuggle drugs into Australia. The drug syndicate was based in Melbourne and was operated by Vietnamese nationals for the last 5 years.
A total of 8 people were arrested last week. The Steward worked for the Malaysian airline Air Malindo. The airline has not commented on this matter yet. According to the police the syndicate has imported more than USD 14.5 m worth of drugs including heroin and methamphetamine from Malaysia.
The arrested comprise four men and four women. The cabin crew was used as a drug courier. The major ports of entry into Australia were the cities of Sydney and Melbourne. The Flight Steward is believed to have carried the drugs on his body and in his luggage. The eight arrested people will face court in Melbourne in May.
