Attack against French President Emmanuel Macron foiled, 6 arrested

The French Security services have detained 6 persons over an alleged plot to attack Emmanuel Macron. Judicial officials have said that the suspects were arrested by officers who were investigating an “imprecise and loosely formed” plan for violent action against the president.
Mr. Macron was in Verdun, northeast France, for World War I commemorations when the latest arrests were made on Tuesday. He will host US president Donald Trump this weekend.
The 6 persons include a woman and they were rounded up from raids in three different regions of France.
It is believed that the they are members of far-right movement. They are of diverse ages ranging from 20 to 60. The man who is the main suspect was found with a 44-calibre gun, as reported by the French TV Channel BFM TV. French police arrested the suspects from Moselle, on the French border with Germany and Luxembourg; Isere, southeast of Lyon; and Ille-et-Vilaine, in northwest France near the city of Rennes.
This is not the first time when a member of the far-right extremist movement has been arrested on suspicions of plotting to assassinate the President. A 23-year old was arrested in July last year.
Only last week, President Macron had warned of the threat from far-right movements across Europe. He cited the examples of the rise of Hitler in Germany and Mussolini in Italy, and attributed it to the complacency during the 1930s, while speaking to Le Courrier Picard newspaper.
